Aunt Gwen always wore a smile and was always willing to share a laugh. "Well I'll be a monkey's Uncle!". That expression she used was priceless with eyes shining bright. All my love.

Joanne Farrell (James sister-in-law)

Entered February 14, 2017 from Laval

When I first moved to Toronto, Mrs. Smith would invite me from time to time, to share her favourite deli, Shopsy's. I always enjoyed her company, being that I was in TO alone, and was touched when she would reach out. She is an example of a strong, intelligent, and independent woman. She has opened her home to many a Farrell. She was also someone who loved picking your brain for your opinions on any and all topics, and enjoyed sharing her views on these. She was fearless not only in her thoughts (I laugh that I now wear my hair up at home, not just because she recommended I would look better!!), but also in the adventures she took. When Mrs. Smith and Aunt Marjorie were taking their driving trips, it always made me want to be more like them! James and John, your mom was a lady to aspire to in many ways, I was fortunate to know her.

I remember how Gwen used to always bake for John's buddies when they came over for band rehearsal and all these teenaged boys would sit in the kitchen and drink tea with her. I got to experience this once only, but will never forget it. What was it about Gwen that was so charming? It's hard to describe but those of you who knew and loved her will know what I mean. I have fond memories of dinner and drinks with Gwen and Aunt Marge, and meeting Gwen downtown for coffee just to catch up. She always made me feel like I was the most interesting, exciting person in the world.

I am so sorry that I wasn't able to come to Toronto to pay my last respects and say goodbye. She was a special lady and I will never forget her.
