In memory of

Guerino "Guy" Sanvido

August 6, 1929 -  November 28, 2023

Guerino ‘Guy’ Sanvido, 94, passed away on November 28th, 2023, at Cummer Lodge in North York, Ontario due to lingering symptoms after recovering from COVID-19.

Guy was born on August 6th, 1929, to Giosue Joseph Sanvido and Anarina Angelina Sanvido in Guelph, Ontario along with siblings Angelo, Dino, and Josephine. He was a man of many talents both physical and artistic. He had been a boxer and worked with trains as a young lad. But he also was a model, painter, graphic artist, and built a career as an actor working in theatre, commercials, television, and movies.

On May 13th, 1964, Guy married Marjorie Sanvido in Toronto. In public, Guy had called her Marge but, through the many love letters and in private, he had often called her Magoo. Their love was one that spanned 59 years and they had one son, Joshua Sanvido, born on April 4, 1972.

When he was semi-retired as an actor, Guy was able to dedicate more time to one of his lifelong passions, steam trains. The house would sometimes be filled with the sounds of steam trains played from the record player and one should not just hear it, one had to feel it. Guy spent more time volunteering with the South Simcoe railway and worked very hard to become a train engineer in his later years.

Life had often brought forth many tough challenges throughout his long life, but Guy had always fought hard, kept pushing, and persevered. His heart, dedication, humour, and passion will be remembered and cherished by all of those he had touched. Perhaps, in the silence, one will hear the echo of a steam train whistle and get a glimpse of his beaming, smiling face looking out of the cab of train 136 or 1057.

At Guy’s request, no funeral or celebration of life will take place. Should you feel so inclined, memorial donations can be mailed to:
South Simcoe Railway
P.O. Box 186

Please ensure cheques are addressed to: South Simcoe Heritage Foundation.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the staff at Cummer Lodge for their dedication, compassion, and care.

I fondly remember Guy all through my life. He always took the time to visit me in Guelph. Even when his schedule was quite busy, he still took the time to just say hi. My husband and I loved the steam engines. What a thrill to ride on those trains. I always boasted about Guy on TV and the last performance we were blessed to see was aa play called Harvey with Guy and Don Knotts. I was starstruck. I always called Guy my uncle. He was the most wonderful, loving, caring, funny man I ever met. Love you always and miss you uncle Guy.
