When I stepped out for coffee this morning, I made my customary check at Starbucks to see if I could meet up with Greg today at our usual place of chance encounters, the place where we have had so many interesting and enjoyable conversations over the past few years.
From politics to philosophy, from economics to religion, Greg was always eager to discuss and unpack the awkward truths - about the past and about how to live with relentless change. He was a deeply thoughtful man whom I admired.
While I knew his health was declining, I was surprised to read his obituary in the Toronto Star this morning, I am deeply saddened to learn of his death so early in this earthly life but heartened to know that his spiritual life continues, undaunted by disease or dying.
God bless Greg Liddy, as ever, Bryan Beauchamp.
Greg was one of my very favourite people. I am so glad I got a chance to talk to him by email this spring before he died. He will be sorely missed but we are all the richer for knowing him. His sense of humour was fantastic and his debating skills, legendary.

We will always remember Greg as a loving father, raising Sean to become an incredible young family man. We have missed seeing Capital Gain on the water this summer. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean and family and all those who were touched by his kindness and friendship. Michel, Chantal, Alexantoine and Guillaume Viau
We realized this summer how much we missed Greg and his almost daily appearance and greeting, before a contented sail on his beloved Capital Gain. We are so saddened to learn that he will not reappear to engage us in intelligent, lively, warm and, many times, humourous conversation on any subject you may wish to bring up, that was fit for gentlemanly discussion. We did our best to duplicate his care and love of his boat, sharing our tools and our ideas. If there was an RCYC medal for the most active single-handed sailor at the Club, he would surely win it!
Our sincere condolences to the family, John & Barbara Gambles
I will forever cherish many great memories of sailing with Greg. He will be greatly missed on the water!!!
