In memory of

Grace Gail Hurst (nee McKeag)

August 5, 1944 -  May 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grace Gail Hurst (nee McKeag) on May 18, 2025, in Oshawa, in her 81st year. Gail lived a life full of love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends, touching the lives of all who knew her.

Born in Scarborough as the second youngest of eight children to Olive and Alexander McKeag, Gail cherished her large family and the joy that came with their gatherings. She was the glue that bound her loved ones together, tirelessly planning Christmas celebrations to ensure that family connections thrived. Her warm, caring presence made every occasion special.

Gail was the beloved wife of the late Ken Hurst and a devoted mother to Laura and stepdaughter Paula (Tim). She was also a cherished Grandmother to Shannon, Ian, Connor, a step-grandmother to Matthew, and a foster grandmother to Jesse. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she found immense joy in their company. Gail is survived by her brother Hugh McKeag (Marilyn), sister-in-law Patricia McKeag, and brother-in-law John Galloway, all of whom she held dear. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Professionally, Gail enjoyed a fulfilling career at Confederation Life, where she was a long-time dedicated employee. Her passion for her work was evident to all who knew her, and she took great pride in her contributions. Tragically, her health declined in recent years as she faced Alzheimer’s disease and COPD with grace and resilience.

Gail’s legacy of love, devotion, and family unity will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Ken.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa for the compassionate care they provided to Gail.
