In memory of

Gordon Douglas Hunter

April 2, 1940 -  June 19, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce Gord passed away on Sunday June 19th after a long struggle with cancer. He is survived by Susan, his loving wife of 57 years, his devoted sons Michael (Laurie) and Geoff (Jordana). Gord will also be sadly missed by his wonderful grandsons Ryan, Adam, Alex and Campbell. He leaves behind his siblings Ken (Marg) and Jane (Rick) and Gord was predeceased by his parents Doug and Doris (nee Bridges). Gord also leaves behind many family and friends who treasured his thoughtfulness and kindness.

The eternal optimist and positive spirit, after his cancer diagnosis, Gord told everyone how much he cherished his 81 happy and healthy years. He often would say “I married my dream girl, had two amazing sons and daughters (in-law), five beautiful grandsons, had some business successes and made many friends along the way. I’m one lucky guy!”.

Gord’s passions included family, business and sports. In 1992, Gord combined all these passions together and co-founded Signature Authentics. Together with his sons, they built a thriving business.

Gord was an idea man. He would get a twinkle in his eye when he uncovered a new business opportunity and was happiest when his ideas supported important causes. This entrepreneurial and generous spirit drove him to create a partnership with Special Olympics Canada. He worked very hard on many fund-raising events over the decades. For his generous dedication to helping others, Gord was inducted into the Special Olympics Ontario – Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2014.

Gord’s family will miss him beyond words. His many stories and jokes will be cherished, his fatherly advice will be put into action and his kindness will live on through his family and friends.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Revera Beechwood Court for the care and comfort Gord received during his final months.

As per Gord’s final wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations to Special Olympics Ontario or The Canadian Cancer Society.

Rest in Peace xoxo

Gord had a passion for Special Olympics athletes. It was easy to see how meaningful Special Olympics was to Gord and I know Signature Authentics will carry on that legacy.

Gord will be missed by his family and friends. My sympathies to Susan, Michael, Geoff and the rest of the family.

RIP Gord.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Please accept Lorraine and my sincere condolences.

I've known Gord so long, I really can't remember a time when I didn't know him. He had a manner that drew people to him ... always understated, always considerate, always generous and always a gentleman.

Years ago, when I asked for his help with one of my Special Olympic schemes, he didn't just say yes, he embraced the organization and understood the importance of helping our athletes. He became a champion for the charity and brought you, your brother and your company along. You were all-in. The financial impact Gord had on the Special Olympic organization can't be measured. We only know where it used to be and where it is now ... Gord was a force who very quietly did his thing and everyone in the organization is better because one day, he said, "yes" to help.

For me, one of the most important words in our language is a volunteer. Your dad was a super-volunteer.

I was a long time roommate of Micheal at UWO and had the pleasure to meet his father on several occasions. Indeed you were a very special person and I am sure you will be missed by many. My deepest condolence to the entire family and friends of this incredible human being. Rest In Peace.
