In memory of

Glenna Carr

Glenna Carr
October 1945 - July 2024

Glenna died Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Owen Sound following an eight-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. With her was her loving husband of 50 years, Alan Gordon. She leaves behind Alan’s children Bruce, Catharine and Ian, their partners and his grandchildren, as well as her sisters Cassie and Franci.

Glenna was a pioneer in government leadership in an era where women’s leadership was rare, serving as Deputy Minister of Management Board of Cabinet, of Consumer and Commercial Relations and of Skills Development and Training.

She used her public sector experience to forge partnerships in the private sector in transportation, healthcare, public safety, training, energy and infrastructure projects. Her extensive post government board experience included Chair of Autonomic Energy of Canada, Technical Standards and Safety Authority, Sheridan College and Wilfred Laurier, amongst many other business and non-profit boards.

While Glenna’s professional achievements are remarkable, she put equal energy into her personal relationships. She was a loving life partner with Alan. And many were fortunate to call her a warm and loyal friend who also had time to mentor innumerable young women throughout her life. She had a generosity of spirit combined with a brilliant mind that made her unique in all the lives she touched.

In lieu of a service, she would want us all to take the time to listen and help a friend, a family member or a young person thinking about their career or life.
