In memory of
Glenn Charles Pinto
November 4, 1958 -
August 13, 2023
Glenn was a fun-loving, charismatic and ambitious man, who worked hard from a young age to create a beautiful life for himself and his family. He sadly passed away on August 13th 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.
Glenn was born on November 4th, 1958 in Bombay, to Joe and Esmerelda Pinto. He grew up in the neighbourhood of Mahim, Bombay with his parents and sister, Vena. He was a smart and adventurous child. At the young age of 14, his family’s life was shaken by the sudden death of his father. Glenn persevered through these difficult circumstances, becoming a great source of strength and support to his mum during this time and the years to follow.
At 17, he left India for Kuwait in pursuit of better work opportunities. He trained in Hamburg, Germany as a technician for Canon Electronics, which was the beginning of a successful career.
Through his late teens and early twenties, Glenn built a prosperous life in Kuwait. In 1981 he met Maria during one of his visits to India. After that first meeting, trips and calls to Bombay became much more frequent, and they married on December 28th, 1983 in Goa. After their marriage, Maria moved to Kuwait to begin their life together.
They created a beautiful life in Kuwait with their children, Gareth (born in 1987) and Nicole (born in 1989). They had a rich social life, loved entertaining friends and hosting family from around the world. Glenn’s love for cars, music, travel and sports flourished during these years. He bought his first Mercedes, the latest sound systems and tech gadgets, played tennis - training with a professional coach, created a cricket team with his friends, and travelled around the world enjoying life. He lived life to the fullest and provided the best opportunities for his family.
In 1990, life took another turn with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Along with Maria, they endured the dangers and difficulty of keeping the family safe and escaping the country before the Gulf war with their two young children, leaving behind the life they had built. They relocated to Goa/Bombay, India for about a year, followed by a year in Dubai, before immigrating to Canada, where they built a new life for the family. A few months after arriving in Canada, their youngest son Curt was born (1993) and completed their family of 5.
Glenn was an entrepreneur at heart and never stopped learning and adapting to his ever changing circumstances with an ambitious and positive attitude. He worked many different jobs throughout his time in Canada, at many times multiple jobs at once, and did everything he could to provide and rebuild a beautiful life for his family. He was adventurous, determined, smart, kind, courageous and generous. His faith in God gave him the strength to shoulder all of life’s obstacles and challenges. His last career was in transportation, operating a taxi service. He was loved by all his customers and colleagues.
Family meant everything to Glenn. He was a proud father of his children, Gareth, Nicole and Curt. He knew his hard work paid off after seeing his children achieve academic and career success, becoming working professionals in the fields of engineering, science and business.
Glenn and Maria maintained their love of travel and passed it onto their kids. He visited the west coast while Gareth lived in Seattle. He travelled around Europe to visit Curt while he studied in Denmark. He was fond and proud of his son-in-law Johnny, and daughter-in-law Ambra, and loved both their families in Canada and in Italy. He travelled to Switzerland and Italy to visit Gareth and Ambra, and to Princeton, New Jersey and New York City to visit Nicole and Johnny. He was most excited and overjoyed to meet 6 month old granddaughter Olivia before he passed.
His wife Maria was his rock, supporting him through life’s challenges including starting anew in several countries. Their shared ambition and love is demonstrated by their friendships across the globe, frequent parties/celebrations and success in numerous countries. Glenn worked hard to provide his children with every opportunity and was proud of their achievements in extracurricular activities, education and their careers. He had loving relationships with his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, his friends, and neighbours. The life of the party, he was the best joke teller and always wanted everyone to enjoy themselves.
Glenn was uniquely loyal and would frequently go out of his way for his friends and family. What many people would shy away from, Glenn would do for others without hesitation. He put his friends and family first, and was extremely generous.
Glenn had a passion for sports. He grew up loving cricket, soccer and tennis in India, and developed a great love and understanding of baseball, basketball, football and hockey in Canada. He was always up to date with the latest news. He was a big Toronto sports fan, especially the Blue Jays and Raptors. He went to sporting events whenever he could, going to the Blue Jays home opener, and hosting SuperBowl parties were yearly events for the family. He was happiest when the house was full and would be ready to BBQ, rain or shine. He loved music and attending concerts. Some of his favourites were The Eagles, Michael Jackson, Deep Purple, Santana, Yanni, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits and Shania Twain among others - he had a wide taste in music and always had the best (and loudest!) sound system for listening.
Looking back on his adventurous and successful life, he earned the respect and admiration of all those that he met and encountered. Both in his personal and professional life, people were drawn to his generous and fun-loving nature. Glenn was a very social person and made friends quickly.
Today as we look around at the numerous tributes and acclamations to his wonderful life and the presence of so many family, friends and well wishers, it is a testament to the wonderful husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather and friend that Glenn was to each of us.
We thank Glenn for the wonderful memories which we will treasure forever and for the love and support he gave to his family, friends and all that knew him. His legacy will live on through the lives of his children and grandchild, who will continue to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment like their Dad taught them.
