In memory of
Gladys "Gorgeous Glad" Gottschalk
October 21, 1930 -
November 2, 2016
Gottschalk, Gladys, Margaret
Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Gladys was born on October 21, 1930 and raised in Toronto with the five siblings (Byron, John, Robert, Doug and Doreen). She met and married the love of her life John Gottschalk. They settled in Scarborough and raised seven children.
Gladys was the family matriarch, our rock. She could solve almost any problem with that magical touch and simple words, “This too shall pass”. The comfort in her embrace and encouraging words rarely missed their mark.
Gladys was an accomplished author and artist. Her works have been sold across the country and are standing prominently to this day. She was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed the outdoors. She had a special bond to her life at the cottage and the local community in the Haliburton Highlands. Miskwabi Lake will sadly miss her presence and friendship. The cottage was a place she found peace and a deep closeness to her dear John.
Gladys enjoyed large family get togethers and long boat rides around the lake including a good rum and coke. She loved all her children and extended family.
Gladys is pre-deceased by her husband John (1985) and her daughter Mary (2006). She is also pre-deceased by her parents Byron and Margaret Cooper and her five siblings. She is survived by her six children, Paul (Deb), Brian (Deanna), Susan (Paul), Anne (John), Theresa (Robert) and Michael (Shari). Gladys leaves behind 14 grandchildren, Alison, Kurt, Ryan, Alana, John, Jennifer, Mark, Jeffrey, Renée, Amanda, Chris, Matthew, Samantha and Jack, as well as 3 great grandchildren, Willem, Michael, James and one more on the way.
Mom is now in the waiting arms of her husband John and embraced by her loving daughter Mary. Their love has lit her way. She is home with them.
We will forever cherish our memories of you Mom and hold precious the time we had together. We will make good on our commitment to love each other.
As Dad and Mary have done, we are sure your love will light our way.
We love you Mom.
