In memory of

Gita Celly

March 13, 1941 -  May 13, 2024

Gita Celly transitioned to be with God in Heaven at 8:11 am this morning ( May 13) in Sunnybrook’s Palliative care wing. We had been there since mid March, due to advancing leptomeningeal disease ( brain and spinal cord cancer). Gita had received her full 10 rounds of palliative radiation treatment previously, and walked in each day with Nikhil or Mary for treatment that was completed late February.

Gita’s elder son Nikhil was holding her hand and placing her hand in Gods hands, and she was soon surrounded by love from her loving husband Viney, younger son Sahil, Mary (Nikhil’s wife) in her room, and by Laura, Syrus and Samyra (Sahil's wife and children) and Nimeran (sister), Preeti, Nikhil Phillip and Riya (Niece and family) and Cyrus (nephew) by phone in Texas and India. Gita lives on in each of us, and in our hearts and minds, and we are ever thankful for her unconditional love for us. She truly exhibited patience, kindness, forgiveness, gentleness and kept no record of wrongs. We will always love her, and she will always be with us.

We thank God for her life and love, and for His amazing grace and presence with her and us at all times. God gave us strength, comfort and peace that passes all understanding to get through this storm and neither life nor death can separate us from his love, and now nor from Ma and her love. Thank you Lord!

We also thank Dr. Matthew Macleod ( family doctor) and Sunnybrook for the highest quality medical care ( Dr. Alan Covens, Gyn Onc., Dr. Hany Soliman, Rad. onc., C2 Oncology staff, Dr. Walji and the palliative care nurses esp. Maggie, Meghan, Bayoush, Simone, Marcus, Jeffrey, Samara, Liz, Jasmine, Bethany, Zarin, Iva, Eugene and staff) for professional and compassionate care, that made these last two months comfortable and even joyful.

We look forward to being with Gita again, and find great peace, comfort and joy in knowing that she is fully healed with a new body, and in her eternal home where she belongs.
