In memory of

Gilbert Wong (黃榮誌)

May 19, 1939 -  June 17, 2022

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilbert Wong on June 17, 2022, due to heart failure. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Gilbert managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in the world. A special thank you to the medical teams at Mackenzie Health and Sunnybrook Health Sciences.

Loving husband to Edith of 56 years. Beloved father to Mark (Carole). Doting grandfather to Nicholas and Mitchell. Caring big brother to Marion (Jim Anderson), Tina (Randy Rasmussen), Rina (John Ling), Rona and Clarence. "Uncle Gilbert" to numerous nieces and nephews all over the globe. Predeceased by daughter Jacqueline. Gilbert will be greatly missed by all.

Gilbert was a lover of sports (tennis, badminton, captain of his high school soccer team), fine food (seafood, steak), and even finer drink (beer, scotch and soda). But his biggest passion was music. From Mario Lanza to Elvis, Mozart to Chinese opera...Gilbert's musical tastes ran the gamut. Whether it was sneaking off to take violin lessons, or singing in church choirs wherever he went (Christ Church, Hong Kong; Holy Trinity, Thornhill), Gilbert sought out, appreciated and loved every minute participating in all things music.

In his twilight years, Gilbert transitioned seamlessly to become a professional napper!

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Please feel welcome to leave a memory or condolence in the guestbook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilbert’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, or Project Care Hong Kong.
