1930-2023
Gerry Fitzhenry, son of Joseph and Lilian (Tadman) Fitzhenry passed away on December 29, 2023, in Brampton, Ontario. The eldest of four children, Gerry was born and raised in Toronto, and attended St. Michael’s College School, the University of Toronto, and Osgoode Hall Law School.

Gerry played on numerous city and school sports teams, with his first love being baseball. As a multi-sport athlete, he also excelled in hockey and football. He was captain of the St. Michael’s Majors Junior A hockey team and, at the University of Toronto, played for the Varsity Blues hockey team and quarterbacked the Intermediate team to a Canadian Inter-Collegiate Football title. He also was recognized as the Outstanding Graduating Athlete in his final year at the U of T’s St. Michael’s College.

Gerry then entered law school and was called to the bar in 1957. He met his future wife Betty, and they settled in Brampton, where he practiced law, and they raised their family.

Gerry loved reading, gardening, shoveling snow, building outdoor rinks, coaching hockey, and travelling the world with Betty. Some of their best days together were on the beach at Georgian Bay and Fort Myers Beach, FL, skiing at the Caledon Ski Club and Ellicottville NY, and hosting family and friends at their home on Main Street South.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Betty; his children Paul (Anne), David (Guylene), Susan (Tim) and Stan (Therese); he was predeceased by his son Brian in 1972. He also is survived by nine grandchildren, Emily, Colin, Daniel, Michael, Patrick, Kevin, Brian, Amanda, and Katelynn and two great grandchildren, Aeden, and Wren. He was predeceased by his sister Maureen (Bill) and brother John (Judith) and is survived by brother Larry (Anne).

Cremation has taken place and friends are invited to join the family on Saturday January 20 2024, at Meadowvale Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 7732 Mavis Road, Brampton, ON. Visitation at 10:00 AM will be followed by a Tribute to Gerry at 11:00 AM and a Reception at 12:00 PM.
