In memory of

Gerard Joseph Cassista

Gerard Cassista
December 4, 1931 – December 30, 2019

The final days of 2019 have withered away and it saddens us to accept that the last day of our father’s life, Gerry Cassista has arrived.

His journey, tough and long, began in the depressed era of 1931. Rural life in Grand Falls New Brunswick had its challenges, lack of education as we know it today, the lack of employment, other than seasonal but always gave thanks for the harvest. This fact is what drove Gerry west to seek more for his forthcoming family in the province of Ontario, finally settling in the burbs of Toronto. In this chapter family life began with a wife and four children that grew with him but as we all know life is not without its challenges and tests of faith. Soon after, Gerry dealt with a divorce and years later the death of his second eldest son. These were times of reflection for Gerry, just as we all now reflect on our own experiences with Gerry over the years.

Gerry was a tough man, set in his ways and never wanting to side with one over the other. He realized early, life has a way of bringing harmony to all with the passing of time. As tough of a man as he was to the end, it took cancer to pry him from us all but not without lasting memories.

Loved and dearly missed by his children and their partners but never forgotten, one day to be returned to his province of birth, to once again be part of the harvest in which we give thanks.

Family and Friends will be received at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE- MISSISSAUGA 1535 South Gateway Road (at Dixie Road, two lights south of Eglinton) 905-602-1580 on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 1-5 p.m. for a Celebration of Gerald’s Life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ian Anderson House in honor of Gerald would be appreciated by the family.
