In memory of

Gerald (Gerry) Barker

May 31, 1948 -  October 25, 2021

It is with the heaviest of hearts, that we share the sudden passing of our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and best friend Gerald Penn Barker on Monday October 25, 2021.
Family was everything to Gerry. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 49 years Lynda, his sons Brad, (Vanessa) and David (Courtney), his sister Gayle (Clint), his sister in-laws Irene (John), Elizabeth (Geoff), and his beloved grandchildren Jackson, Bodhi, Bryce and Dawson. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces Janice (Jim), Cheryl, Elyse (Mike and Lochlan) and his nephews Shawn (Nathan), Devan (Tessa and Kezlyn), Corey, Jimmy (Erin and Kaylee), Michael (Catherine and Emma), Jonathan, (Amber and Brynnlee), and Matthew.
As a dedicated teacher and caring Principal, Gerry had an immeasurable impact on so many. Over his 35 years as an educator, Gerry's love of physical education and his belief that everyone can succeed, inspired countless students and colleagues. His deep commitment to learning and inclusivity was unparalleled in his field.
Gerry left a giant footprint that influenced so many people. This was especially evident in his role as a coach and mentor. His tremendous impact will continue to live on through the numerous athletes and coaches he worked with, as well as the North Toronto Basketball Organization he co-founded and helped create. His jovial and infectious spirit will always be remembered through his family and friends. His legacy is one that we are honoured to carry on for him.
As Dad always said, "Teach gently, entertain greatly!"
We love you Gerry

We are so sorry for your loss. Gerry will be sadly missed in our corner of the world as well! From the moment he and Lynda moved in, they embraced the neighbourhood and opened up their home for an annual winter solstice gathering. Gerry helped bring life to our end of the street: partaking in road hockey with our young son, his vibrancy, kindness, enthusiasm, and perfect patterns in his grass always brought smiles and sunshine to our end of the street. Thank you for sharing Gerry with us.

His laugh, his mischievous way, his green helmet and of course, his love of curling. I will miss it all.
Such a great person. Farewell, Gerry Barker.

Very sorry to learn of the loss of this lovely person. He will be sorely missed. I remember Linda telling someone at a family gathering that someone had asked her what little Jackie's favourite toy was, and Linda said, "I'd have to say, it is Gerry." He was an involved grandfather as well as father and they children and grandchildren were lucky to have had him in their lives.
