George Yiu Tak Cheung, 98, peacefully passed away on March 14 from natural causes.
George is survived by his wife, Pearl Cheung; his three children, Nora Candelario, Euna Yu and Kenny Cheung; and his four grandchildren, Erica, Derek, Carl and Chelsea.
George was born in China and settled in Hong Kong after World War II. He started his first job as a teacher after graduating from Northcote College of Education. His career not only led him to be a school principal but also gave him the opportunity to meet Pearl. They got married in 1954.
After retirement, George immigrated to Canada and developed an interest in singing, both pop song and traditional Chinese opera. His talent led to winning trophies in local community competitions at the age of 79. He continued his active lifestyle for almost another 20 years as a volunteer in Yee Hong and Mon Sheong senior homes, hosting karaoke and Chinese opera sessions every week, and participating in numerous fundraising events. One of his performance highlights at age 84 is in the Media/Videos section.
George will be deeply missed but we are proud of his dedication to the communities, as well as his quote:
"Bringing happiness to everybody and you will be surrounded with happiness"

I am so sorry for the loss of Uncle George whom I knew in the 70s when he was in Hong Kong.
Rest in Peace.
