It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our dear friend, father, grandfather, and fellow Greek George Stavrianos, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 86.

George was born in 1937 in Kosmas, Kynourias but spent much of his time in Geraki, Laconia. His life was not easy. The eldest and only son of Evangelos and Aggeliki Stavrianos, he spent many summers traveling to Greece to visit his parents, in-laws, and family. Brother to Margarita, Olga and Elpiniki. He married his childhood friend and neighbour Stiliani on April 6, 1964. Beloved father of Angelique and Evagelos. Cherished father-in-law of Sami and Sophie.

He immigrated to Canada in 1965 and worked endless hours to start a life for himself and his new family. George loved spending hours tending to his garden and playing with his granddaughters Stephanie, Katherine, Georgia, and Andreana.

George, like most of his countrymen at the time, was not lucky enough to go beyond Grammar School. Yet, his legacy to his children, grandchildren, and friends is his thirst for knowledge and the importance of one's moral and spiritual betterment. George loved to spend time with friends and enjoyed giving grand tours of his garden. Although he worked tirelessly day and night he never complained. His favorite time of the year was Spring and Easter, always eager to host parties and celebrate with others. George wore many hats, from a barber to a general contractor, he would offer a helping hand to anyone he could. George was truly one of a kind.

Today, those who were lucky enough to be related to George, or to know him, lose not only one of their own, a friend, but also a good-hearted man, with an inexhaustible supply of fascinating tales of life.

May his memory be eternal, and may he rest peacefully.

Friends may call at the ELGIN MILLS FUNERAL CENTRE, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill (SE corner of Elgin Mills and Leslie) 905-737-1720 on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 for a visitation starting at 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., visitation will begin 1/2 hour prior. An interment to follow at ELGIN MILLS CEMETERY.
