In memory of

George Skyllaris

August 1, 1930 -  December 26, 2022

It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of beloved father, husband, and grandfather to all - George Skyllaris on December 26th, 2022. Born and raised in 1930 in Agios Demetrios village in Greece near Nafpaktos, George had pride for his hellenic traditions even after moving to Canada in 1965. He helped to establish the Greek community of Toronto, and spent countless hours creating the foundations for the next generations of Greek-Canadians to have somewhere to share their culture. He loved being with nature and outdoors, and could always be found gardening his tomato plants and roses in the spring and summer months. George was a kind hearted man with a zest for life. He always had a piece of wisdom to share with everyone he talked to, and believed that hard work and perseverance were the keys to success. No one who came to visit him would be left empty-handed, as he always had a stack of chocolate bars in his kitchen that he gave to all of his loved ones. George was a fighter, and always did everything he could to bounce back from whatever came his way. He passed at the age of 92 the way he spent his favourite hours of the day - being with his family and listening to the sound of their voices. He will be remembered by his daughter Sophia, son-in-law Peter, grandkids Georgios and Alexandra, siblings in Greece, his nieces and nephews, and all of the other countless lives that he impacted. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation in his memory.
