In memory of

George Manton Carrick

September 24, 1940 -  January 12, 2023

George Manton Carrick passed away on January 12th peacefully at home in Arroyo Grande, California. He was surrounded with love, music and a view of the setting sun.

Born in 1940 in Toronto, Canada, George was the son of Elizabeth Bunker Carrick and Donald Day Carrick. He had a younger sister, Ellen, who says that George liked to play tricks on her.

He went to John Ross Robertson public school, attended the University of Toronto Schools (UTS), and graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto.

After working at Wood Gundy in Toronto and Winnipeg, George moved to California and got his MBA at the University of Southern California in 1969.

He met and married his wife, Donna in Toronto. They had 54 fabulous years and two sons, Brad and Scott. They lived in California, a year in Europe, Toronto, California (again), and Kauai, Hawaii.

George had a career in finance and consulting. He immersed himself into a wide range of industries, from mergers and acquisitions to publishing. A highlight was his management position with Sullivan Bluth, an entertainment company making animated movies and interactive video. He really enjoyed the movie business.

George was an avid golfer, mountain biker and hiker. He had a lifelong passion for Ferraris and wrote the definitive book “The Spyder California, A Ferrari of Particular Distinction”.

George was a loyal, true friend to many and had great memories of all the fun and escapades along the way. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Green of Thornhill, his nieces, Jackie, Jennie and Janet and their families. He will be forever in the hearts of his wife, Donna and his sons, James Bradley Carrick “Brad” of San Francisco and Robert Scott Carrick “Scott” of Arroyo Grande, California.

Friends and family will be welcomed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd, in Toronto at 1pm on April 28th, with a celebration of George’s life following. Heartfelt thanks to Central Coast Hospice of San Luis Obispo. If you wish, donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are welcome. https://www.lls.org/

From the moment George charmed my sister Donna and we welcomed him into our family, I always looked forward to the time we spent together. Whether it was on the dock in Temagami, a beach in Hawaii or just enjoying our children in each other’s homes, we made great memories. I will miss George’s sense of humor which could always be counted on to liven up any discussion.

Donna Carrick (Wife)

Entered April 12, 2023 from Arroyo Grande

George was a wonderful husband and my adventurous travel partner. He had a curious spirit, a fair tolerance for ruins, and the patience of a saint in art galleries. I miss him greatly.

Henry Fiorillo (Friend since we worked together in 1974)

Entered April 12, 2023 from Toronto

George was a dearly valued friend, loyal and generous with his time. A kindly man who I deeply miss especially the long chats we had on a regular basis. A great loss beyond words to Donna, Scott and Brad and his family and many friends. The world has lost a great man.

George was a long time friend of my husband’s and remained so even after his and Donna’s move to California. He was such a great friend, always calling to chat and keep in touch, visiting us whenever he was up this way and also hosting us in California.
I truly appreciate having had George as our friend and will certainly miss our telephone chats. His friendship meant a lot to me….RIP my friend.
