In memory of

George Kalogris

December 24, 1940 -  June 13, 2024

We announce with profound sorrow the passing of George Kalogris, who departed this life peacefully on June 13, 2024, in Lindsay, Ontario, at the age of 83, following a valiant fight against cancer.

Born in Kakouri, Tripolis, Greece, on December 24, 1940, to Demetrios and Photine Kalogris, George emigrated to Toronto, Ontario, at the tender age of 17, embarking on a journey to build a new life. He married his beloved Sophia on May 19, 1961, and they shared a deeply devoted union until her passing in 2009. Known for his unwavering faith, profound love for family and friends, and an ethic of relentless hard work, George was a pillar in his community. His dedication shone through whether he was at the helm of his restaurant or bolstering his children's entrepreneurial efforts.

Predeceased by his siblings Eleni, Konstantinos, Demetrios and Katherine, George leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his children: Abbess Nectaria Kalogris of The Holy Theotokos Convent, Stouffville, Ontario; Panagiota “Betty” Kochergin and her husband Seraphim of Marlborough, MA, USA, and their son George; Demetrios “Jim” Kalogris and his wife Maria of Maple, Ontario; and Athanasios “Tom” Kalogris of Lindsay, Ontario. He is also survived by his sister, Konstantina Gouskos, of Athens, Greece.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, June 16, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Holy Theotokos Convent, 4369 Faulkner Avenue, Stouffville, Ontario. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Following the service, a memorial meal will be served, and then the funeral procession will proceed to Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Section 28, for his final resting place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Theotokos Convent for the construction of a new church in honor of St. John the Russian, a saint for whom George held great reverence.

May his memory be eternal!

Theo George, you were the best. You always had kind words and advice as I was growing up…then as I got married and as I had kids of my own and grandkids. You will be missed..your smiling face lit up room.

To my cousins, may God give you strength at this difficult time.
Ο Θεός να τον αναπαυση . Να σας βλέπη από ψιλά αγαπημένους και ευτηχισμενους.

A dear friend shared this poem with me when my mom passed away and it gave me
Great comfort:

God looked around his garden
And found an empty space;
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest;
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
He knew you were in pain,
He knew you might never
Get well upon this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
so He closed your weary eyelids
and whispered 'Peace be thine.'
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you never went alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
