In memory of

George Humble

May 24, 1926 -  January 22, 2018

George Humble, Able Seaman Royal Navy, passed away peacefully in his Toronto home on January 22nd in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Louise (Stote); his parents, Cecil and Elsie Humble of Sunderland, England and brothers Jack and William Humble. Survived by his son Deric (Marie) Humble and brother John (Patricia) Humble. Dear uncle to Janice, Angela, Sandra, Marilyn, Pamela, Glenda, Cindy, Shelda, Vivian, Susie, Andrea, and their wonderful families.
During WWII, as a patriotic 17 year old he enlisted in the Royal Navy where he performed as a gunner and diver on the Russian Convoys. As the war progressed his special talents became evident and he was then assigned to the Special Operations team. On April 29th 1945 his boat, the HMS Goodall was sunk by a German U Boat. He was the last remaining survivor of the last boat sunk in WWII in the North Atlantic. For his services he was decorated by both British and Russian governments.
After the war ended, George met the love of his life, Barbara at a local dance. They were married and soon after their son Deric was born.

In 1951 George emigrated with his young family to Toronto. After a career at Eaton’s he joined the former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto as an Administrator. Over the next 27 years George thoroughly enjoyed his career as Administrator at the Homes for the Aged division where he successfully managed a number of homes.
George will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his quintessential English humour, anecdotes and great sense of fun. He was a gentleman, scholar, and a great traveling companion. His joie de vivre was infectious and his kind heart made people of all ages gravitate to him.

Please join us in celebrating George’s life; he will be laid to rest at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough. Visitation will be held on Sunday January 28, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday January 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Salvation Army or Kidney Foundation.

Both Leslie and I have such fond memories of George (he forbid us to call him Mr. Humble). We first met him at our home for a lovely dinner, and fell in love with him instantly. He was so witty, a truly gifted and talented story teller, as we shared so many great laughs. George was sincerely interested in what we had to share, and was engaged, listening and interacting with us with such interest!. We will miss George and know that he is a huge loss to his family and friends. George, may you Rest in Peace, you are truly loved.. Antonella & Leslie
