August 4, 2024
George (Giorgos) Bourikas, born on November 26, 1929 in the small Greek village called Eva, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024 while surrounded by his family. Surviving the Nazi occupation during World War II, George faced unimaginable hardships, including the loss of his father at a young age. After serving in the Greek army, he embarked on a journey around the world aboard cargo ships, experiencing diverse cultures and forging a path toward a brighter future.
In search of new opportunities, George immigrated to Canada where he met his wife, Vassiliki, and established a loving family. His strong work ethic and determination were evident in everything he did, inspiring those around him. George remained fiercely proud of his Greek heritage throughout his life, often found strolling the Danforth or cheering for his beloved Panathinaikos soccer team at his local club.
George is survived by his two children—Nicos (Susan) and Eve (Spiros), four grandchildren—Joanna (Marc), George (Jenifer), George (Irene), and Nino (Samantha)—five great-grandchildren: Spiro, Sammy, Niko, Alexia, and Beau, and two of his siblings—Kitsa and Nikki. His family reflects the legacy of love, strength, and Greek tradition he instilled in those around him.
George's life story serves as a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of family bonds. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering spirit, dedication to his loved ones, and his proud Greek roots.
