In memory of

George Bettencourt

May 20, 1943 -  January 25, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that the Bettencourt family announces the passing of George Bettencourt on January 25, 2021. A longtime resident of Scarborough, Ont., George was in his 77th year.

Born on May 20th, 1943 in Georgetown, British Guyana to Caesar Joseph Bettencourt and Cecilia Rebecca (n. Logan), George was raised there with his siblings Jeannette (d.), Megan, Caesar/Raymond, Frank, June, Johnny, Pam, Joseph, Stephen and Anjali (d.).

In 1971, George and his then fledgling family emigrated to Montreal to begin a new chapter in life; an adventurous, fulfilling and exciting time remembered by all with great fondness; George’s ebullient, celebratory nature and his forthright curiosity and intelligence about life and the world being central and inspirational to his family in every way.
Ultimately George and his family moved to Toronto in 1984, to be closer to the Bettencourts’ growing circle of family and friends, who were always the greatest source of joy in his life, and to pursue the plentiful great times and adventures which followed.

George is and shall be dearly missed by his ever-loving wife of 52 years Janice (n. Johnson) along with his devoted and treasured daughters Lisa, Simone, Trish (& Mike) and Nina, for whom the sudden and tragic loss of this beautiful man is very hard to bear.
Additionally, George will be deeply missed by his very close extended family. Having been pre-deceased by two of his dear brothers-in-law, Patrick (Johnson) and Cecil (Johnson), George also sadly leaves behind brothers-in-law Cyril (& Loyla) and Michael (Johnson) as well as his sisters-in-law Pamela (& Milton), Jenny (& Kevin), Anita (Cecil) and their entire families. George loved, and was loved, by all.

The Bettencourt family would like to extend its thanks to the doctors and health-care professionals at Scarborough General and Scarborough Grace Hospitals in caring for George through his final days.

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the unexpected and unfortunate passing of Uncle George who was a deeply loved and cherished member of our family.

The emotions and sorrow are still so ever-present, so soon after the December's passing of Aunty Janice's elder brother and George's brother in-law and friend, Cecil.

Uncle George was a loving husband to wife Janice, and father to 4 special daughters; Lisa, Simone, Tricia and Nina, whom he loved dearly.

Our Deepest Sympathy's and Condolences to Aunty Janice, Lisa, Simone, Tricia and Nina on your loss and know that Uncle George touched us all in ways that will never be forgotten and will forever be celebrated.

May the Lord bless his soul and may Uncle George rest in eternal peace amongst the Angles.

There was never a time in your company, George, that you didn’t extend a warm and welcoming smile and invitation to join the conversation or for a little drink. These and many more memories I hope will help Janice, the girls and all your family and friends to get through this very difficult time.
Rest In Peace 🙏
