In memory of

George Alan Whittle

April 24, 1945 -  December 31, 2022

George Whittle, aged 77, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Holland Christian Homes, Grace Manor on December 31st, 2022. George was born in Bolton, England on April 24th, 1945, to George and Florrie Whittle. He immigrated to Canada in 1969, boarding with a Dutch Christian family in Rexdale. Two days after arriving in Canada George secured a job at Sears Canada where he would enjoy a long career of 36 years until his retirement in 2006.

On the invitation of his boarders, George began to attend their church where he met the love of his life, Tina (née Zwaal) and two years later they were married on December 23rd, 1972. George and Tina purchased their first house in Bramalea where they welcomed their first two children, Matthew and Sarah. They moved from Bramelea to Rexdale in 1978 where they welcomed their last two children, Rachel and Ian. They remained at their home for 42 years until recently moving into Holland Christian Homes in 2019. George was an active member of both churches he attended, Second Christian Reformed Church and Rexdale Alliance church, as a cadet counselor, deacon, and in the community outreach program.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Tina of 50 years, his four children and their spouses and his three grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brother Roy and family and his sister in laws, Ada Maas and Ingrid Knight and their families.

He will always be remembered for his love of gardening, his enthusiasm for soccer and his handyman abilities. His kind heart and empathetic nature will never be forgotten by the lives he touched.

The funeral will take place at Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton on Friday, January 6th, with visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 pm. For friends and family unable to attend in person, the Funeral Service will be available for viewing via livestream on this webpage 10 minutes before the service and remain available for future viewing. If so desired, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in lieu of flowers.

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all the nursing staff of Grace Manor, 1st floor South, for their compassion and care for George over the last three years.

During my first period of Intercontinental Flying at KLM I visited George and Tina a few times. George made me feel welcome as family member. By the information given to me from Ieteke and Ada I knew that the health of George was deteriorating. However I did not expect his passing so soon.
I would like to express my sincere condolences to Tina and the children.

Love
