In memory of

Gek Mooi Sang

Gek Mooi Sang (née Yeap)
September 16, 1947 - February 6, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gek Mooi Sang on February 6, 2025. She passed after a brief but intense fight from complications due to colorectal cancer at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, a cherished sister and loyal friend who will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Gek was born the fourth of five children to Bee Eng and Kee Thian Yeap in the small town of Alor Setar, in Kedah, Malaysia. She was an adventurous soul who loved to travel and after finishing school in London, England moved to Toronto, Canada where she eventually met and married Henry Sang. They travelled extensively all over the world, trekking through Europe and camping throughout most of the United States before eventually settling and having two children, Sue-Jane and Wayne.

Through marriage and motherhood Gek fostered her love of travel in her children, while also providing a loving and warm home. While working full-time outside the home she always found time for bedtime stories, carting her kids from class to class, indulging her love of cooking, and spending time with close friends.

In her retirement she kept herself busy, volunteering at the seniors centre close to home, making new friends and keeping an active social calendar. As time went on she gracefully slid into her role as grandmother, showering her grandsons with unconditional love, treats and attention.

She is survived by her sisters, Jennifer Wycherley and Suraya Yeap, her son, daughter and son-in-law, Wayne, Sue-Jane, and Daniel, and her two grandchildren, Malcolm and Nathaniel.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at York Funeral Centre, followed immediately by a funeral service (2:30pm to 3:30pm) at the same location and shortly after by a reception off-site.

A private cremation will take place at a later date.

Dear Sue-Jane and Wayne
Even though your beloved mom, our dear aunt, has left our lives, we won't forget her.
Memories of her will forever be in our hearts. She was a caring sister to our mother. She was also an aunt with a big heart, generous with advice on how to live a good life.
As we all say farewell to her, may the cherished memories of her give us comfort.

Auntie Sang was the nicest and coolest moms we know. She once cooked three woks of absolutely delicious food for our whole dragonboat team of friends at her house. Personally, I have also been moved by her kindness whenever I met her and mostly through her daughter, Sue. In utter honesty, I envy Sue for having such a loving mom in her life, especially for her dedication to her children and grandchildren. Aunty Sang and her smiles will be missed by us all.
