Jean Hannah Garlick

December 19, 1925 - March 7, 2023

It is with great love, care and respect that we bid farewell to our beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and true friend and mentor to countless many as she crosses over in her journey.

Jean, born in Aberdeen Scotland on December 19, 1925 to parents Marjorie Sutherland and Richard Stewart, was amongst a family of 11 siblings. She passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2023 at the age of 97, surrounded by her loving family.

The warmth, kindness, love and generosity of her soul will be held in fondness and carried forth by the countless many she touched in her life for years to come.

Married to Reginald Frank Garlick on November 29, 1945 till his death in 1997, Jean is survived by her daughters Margaret MacGregor and Heather Wilson: grandsons Bruce Brigham, Justin Garlick-Brown, Jesse Garlick-Brown and Samuel Wilson: great grandsons Spencer Brigham and Mackenzie Brigham.

A celebration of her life will be held in the spring. Details to be announced.

How privileged I also felt to know Jean. We first met when my daughter Samantha was six and had made friends with Jean’s daughter Heather in Grade One. I asked Jean, who was at that time a stay home working mother, would she take care of Sam while I was working outside the home in TO. Jean said she would, Sam was already spending hours in her home, but we made it official, every day for four years I could go out to work knowing that Jean was taking care of my daughter.
She became a second mom to Sam and Sam has always loved her dearly.

Jean was a wonderful caring, loving, loyal, hardworking and very funny lady who I have been privileged to know for the past 45 years.

We spent time together on November 1, last year, a wonderful afternoon visit, Jean was in top form, funny, and as usual, caring and loving. Samantha, Ken and myself had a lovely time; Heather her wonderful caring daughter provided a delicious lunch, we reminisced, talk about our favourite TV show Corrie and just had a fun afternoon.

It’s has been a privilege to know Jean and her husband Reg who was such a lovely man. Rest in Peace Jean you and Reg are together once again and that is a comfort to all who knew you both. Love Maxine and Ken
