In memory of
Gar Bin Lee
July 24, 1934 -
June 18, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Gar Bin (Ben) Lee announce his passing on June 18, 2024 at the age of 89 years. Ben will be lovingly remembered by his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
He is predeceased by his wife, May Har Lee and daughter Pamela and leaves behind his mourning daughters and son, May (Charlie), Kay, Vivian (Lid), Virginia (Nick) and Warren (Anita).
Ben, best known as Ben or Gong-Gong and Yeh-Yeh, was an incredible business man and loving grandfather to Chloe, Monika (Chris), Alex, Madison and Sean. He was an amazing and adoring great grandfather to Logan.
Though the grief is overwhelming, Ben lives on in the hearts of his loving family who will continue to treasure memories he’s shared with them on his journey. Ben took pride in his strategic approach to business, his presentation and wellness routines that included meditation and yoga and always had a strong pulse on popular culture. He provided positive Chinese representation throughout the decades as a restaurant owner who brought Chinese cuisine to Toronto and the Canadian experience at Ontario Place.
In his final days, Ben delighted the staff in the palliative care units at Princess Margaret and Bridgepoint hospitals with his sharp wit and impressive flexibility. He enjoyed regular visits with his family, surprisingly tasty hospital meals, taking strolls and admiring the views of Toronto and even played 13-card poker with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, sports betting, film, Chinese television and yoga.
Ben lived a wonderful and rich life filled with love and family that spanned multiple generations.
We will love you forever and always, Ben (Dad, Gong-Gong, Yeh-Yeh and Bawk-Gong).
