In memory of

Fred Predki

February 26, 1938 -  March 6, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce that Fred Predki passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024.

Fred will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, but most of all by his loving wife, Marilyn (Western) of more than 64 years, son Paul (Kathryn) and daughter Adrienne, and grandchildren John (Kim), Kayla (Elliott), Michael (Katherine), Taryn and Jess (Ilinca). Fred was predeceased by his beloved daughter Debbie (Derek) and granddaughter Lauren.

He was born in Toronto and is the son of the late John Predki & Josephine Jerry.
Fred graduated high school from Harbord Collegiate before going on to become a Chartered Accountant. He spent most of his career in taxation in the resource industry both in Toronto and Calgary. He was a member of the TEI (Tax Executives Institute).

His successful career afforded him the ability to retire at the age of 58. After retirement, Fred spent his summers at the family cabin and in the Thornhill area with his family and friends. In the winters, Fred and Marilyn would snowbird at The Meadows in Sarasota, Florida, where they made many close friends and lasting memories.

Fred was a strong, resilient, caring, and considerate man who battled cancer for almost 9 years. Despite the challenges he faced at the end of his life, he managed to retain his calm, positive attitude, and sense of humour which made the best of a tough time for him and his family.

A Celebration of Life for Fred will be held on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the York Funeral Centre located at 160 Beecroft Rd., North York.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation may be made in Fred’s honour to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Odette Cancer Center where he had great care from many wonderful doctors & nurses. My late husband Syd and I have been close friends with Fred and Marilyn for over 60 years. We started out as new parents and neighbours in Willowdale in 1963. Many memories of happy times there and their homes in Calgary, Muskoka, Sarasota before they moved to Thornhill. Fred has battled his illness the last 8 years and has been very stoic and never complained, not to us anyway. Somehow he and Syd have ended up with adjoining niches at York Cemetery so there is talk of bridge to continue……
