In memory of

Fred Kratochwil

June 1, 1931 -  May 1, 2024

Fred Kratochwil, passed away peacefully at his lifelong home on May 1, 2024. Born on June 1, 1931, Fred lived a full and vibrant life that spanned over nine decades.

Fred grew up in a small town in Austria, where he cultivated his lifelong passion for the outdoors, which he carried with him throughout his life. He moved to Canada in the 1950’s on his own, with thoughts of adventure and building a better life.

Fred's greatest joy came from his family. He married Natalia Moros, his beloved partner of 42 years, with whom he shared a love that endured through both good times and challenges. She left his side in 2019, and he dearly missed her since.

Fred was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering support for those he loved. He was always ready to share a story that brought a smile to everyone's face. His warmth and generosity extended beyond his family to many neighbours, who were often happy to stop from their walk and chat with my dad if he was outside; which he often was. Fred Kratochwil's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who welcomed him into their lives.

In his later years, Fred enjoyed gardening, walking, camping, and he continued to stay active as often as he could. His positive outlook on life and his ability to find joy in the little things made him a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his son John, and his grandchildren, as well as countless friends. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Tuesday May 7, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation in Fred's honor.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of a very gentle soul, Fred, whom we had the pleasure to know for many decades. Fred had an infectious optimism and always saw the best in you. He always expressed his curiosity in what you had to share with him and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment that we had with him. He will be greatly missed by all, especially by his son John, daughter-in-law Menush, and grandkids. We extend our sincere sympathy, thoughts, and prayers to the Kratochwil family. May Fred now rest in peace with his dear wife Natalia.
Sincere sympathies, from Oleh and Julia Wowkodaw, and family.
