Francesca Mora Tagliavini Jellinek

September 21, 1931- July 10, 2022

MORA, Francesca Tagliavini Jellinek (Franca)

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Francesca. She died peacefully on June 10, 2022, after spending the day with her loving family. She was the fierce and loving window of Sergio Tagliavini Jellinek and beloved mother to Simona Tagliavini Jellinek ( Jody ). She will be sorely missed all her family in Italy.  She was deeply-loved by her daughters-in-law Jody and Tara, and her grandchildren, Owen, Madeline, Riki-lee and Maegyn.  She was born in Borgomanero, Piemonte and passed at Hospice Vaughan.

She was never happier than when she was tending to her magnificent gardens and/or eating ice cream.

She began her life in fashion making dresses out of the discarded parachutes of soldiers during WWII. She ran a textile factory in both Italy and Greece and later a ready to wear and made to measure dress shop in Toronto’s Little Italy on St. Clair. Countless brides in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s owe their beautiful hand-made wedding dress to her. She was a fashionista her whole life and insisted on getting her nails done right until last week.

She lived her life on her own terms and was a fighter in every sense of the word. She loved soccer and especially Inter Milan and the Italian National Team. If there was a game on TV she was glued to it. She loved to eat and was always ready for an espresso or ice cream at any time of the day. It was hard to take a picture of her without her tongue sticking out. She was a force of nature when it came to getting things done and telling people what to do. She was fiercely proud of her accomplishments and more so of those of her husband, daughter and friends. She will be sorely missed by family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love knew no bounds and she generous in spirit and life with not only her family and friends but also to her acquaintances and always to those less fortunate than herself. She loved and appreciated her caregivers, Beatrice, Firtuna, Fe and doctors, nurses and PSWs at her care home and Hospice Vaughan.

She never like wearing black, if you plan on attending the service she would love it if you wore one of her favourite colours, red or yellow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice Vaughan.

While walking my dogs up my street one day I waved to a new neighbour who called me over to pet my little terriers. I have now met the lovely sweet Franca. Although only for a few years, I always enjoyed a little chat with her when I passed her house and she was sitting on the stoop or watering her flowers. RIP and bless her family

Time rushes past us so fast that all we can hope is to capture a moment of memory that brings a smile. Franca was at my house at a dinner party and Scott, as usual acting stupid, lifted his shirt and exposed himself to her. She was completely unfazed. The conversation had been about her many boyfriends. I am glad to have been witness to the event. She will be missed.

I Franca was a force. I admired how she moved through the world. Strong and not shy to voice an opinion.
I especially admired her flare and love for flowers and the gorgeous pots and pots of glorious beauty lining her garden. Simona and Jody my deepest sympathy to you both. My heart is heavy . Xoxo
