In memory of

Frances N. McTavish

July 14, 1926 -  December 19, 2020

Frances Noreen McTavish (nee Purdy).
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frances (Fran), our loving and devoted mother, on December 19, 2020, in her 95th year.

Mom passed away peacefully at Hawthorn Woods Care Community in Brampton with her daughter Deb and son Ted sharing Covid restricted visits in order to be with her in her final moments.

Mom was born in Toronto on July 14,1926 and raised along with her siblings;
Predeceased by her sisters Ailene Gaul and Freda Jones and survived by her sister Ann Wilson and brother Marvin Purdy.

During the second world war mom served as a ‘Farmerette’ lending a hand under the Ontario Farm Service Force on local farms. After first setting eyes on her husband to be (Bill) who was proudly wearing his Merchant Marine uniform and visiting mom’s high school, they then met at a friend’s party and, as they say, the rest is history.

Mom had a very welcoming nature, was very kind and generous and above all cherished her family dearly. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) (November, 1991) and will be greatly missed by her children Deb Atkin (Mark), Ted (Gaby), her grandchildren Jennifer (Nick), Christine (Sean), Erynn, Tyler (Katerina), Michael (Linda) and Lisa (Stephen). She will also be missed by her great grandchildren Alyssa, Mateah, Liam, Katie, Elya, Quinton, William, Isla, Taylor, Violet and Madilynn.

Our family wishes to acknowledge the dedicated work of the many staff members including PSWs and nurses at Hawthorn Woods Care Community who provided mom with great care for the past four years. In keeping with mom’s wishes, cremation has occurred and she will be laid to rest with her dear husband in a private memorial to be held at Meadowvale Cemetery in the spring of 2021.

Online condolences may be expressed through the guestbook section of this website.
