Fotini Georgiadis, wife of late George Georgiadis, passed away peacefully at the Hellenic Home for the Aged in Scarborough, Ontario on June 9th, 2020 at the age of 101. She was born on December 4th, 1918 in the district of Asia Minor, Greece. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Despina, Chrissanthi and Christos (Monica) and her eight grandchildren, Emmanuel, Lydia (Enzo), Timothy (Marilena), Delores (Jim), Deborah, Andrew, Dean (Eileen) and Daphne (David).
Her 18 great-grandchildren are Danielle, Dominique, Emanuele-John “EJ”, Christina, Natasha, Zoë, Isabella, Alexis, Luca, Soleil, Damianos, Derek, Petros, Ariston, Filipe, Leonidas, James and Jayden.
Along with her husband George, Fotini is preceded in death by Kostas and John.
Fotini came to Toronto, Ontario Canada with George and two children in 1960 to join her married daughter Despina in order to start a new life in a new land. Being an immigrant family in those days was not an easy undertaking but they did their best to adapt to long, cold winters, work at low paying jobs and raise a family without knowing one word of English, or having the benefit of any ESL classes commonly available today to newcomers. This slowly changed and Fotini had her first job in Toronto as a cafeteria server at the T. Eaton Co. Limited on Yonge St and College Ave. She did not mind working both inside and outside of the family home. She was a champ in this regard.
Those who came to know and associate with Fotini within the close-knit Greek community and the numerous family members that loved her can all attest to the fact that she had a fighter-spirit, (but the good sort that you need to have in order to live to over 101). She had a non-complaining attitude, was hospitable and generous to all even though having a modest amount of possessions. But most of all, she loved family and social outings. In her 100th year she mused about whether there would be another family wedding to attend in the future. Fotini will be remembered for these attributes and many more.
Due to Covid-19 restriction on funeral services in Ontario, there will be a family only funeral arrangement on Saturday, June 13th at Pine Hills Cemetery. Although this is a private gathering, we encourage you to leave your condolences on the Guestbook page on this website.
