In Loving Memory

Florence Chong née Chin

After a 21-day battle with COVID, it is with the deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Florence Chong (Tsui Fong), on February 3, 2021, at the age of 84. She will be forever missed and held in loving memory by her husband Kwan, children Bennie, Evelyn, and Bensan, her grandchildren Caroline and Neil, children of Evelyn Chong and Brian Sano.

Married for 60 years, Florence lived a full and happy life. She worked for well over 20 years at Canada Post gathering many close, lifelong friends into her circle. A ferocious warrior mom, incredibly compassionate and ever a champion of the underdog, she loved and nurtured everyone around her. Her garden full of her babies (indoors and outdoors) will miss her green thumb. Even increasingly debilitating arthritis could not prevent her from caring for her garden babies for hours each day, spring, summer, and fall. Her heart was always overflowing with love for children, babies, and anything and anyone needing care.

Sadly, her husband Kwan Chong, only survived her by one week. After surviving COVID, the virus seemingly accelerated other health issues and he passed peacefully in his sleep, February 10, 2021.

Due to COVID restrictions, the family has decided to wait, and rather than a funeral service, have a Celebration of Life Memorial once it is safe to gather.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Florence Chong at Trillium Health Care Partners (Credit Valley Hospital):

I am sorry for your loss. I will always remember her as a woman with a very kind heart and a wonderful laugh. She treated everyone as if they were her children. I am glad to have the opportunity to get to know her and to me she was like my second mom. I knew if I had any questions about cooking or gardening, she would be there to share her knowledge and expertise. Mrs. Chong taught me how to make zongji. It was fun wrapping them with her. My family cherished the times we had with her. To my daughters, she was Por Por. Mrs. Chong, we love and will miss you greatly. Rest In Peace.
