Fiona Elizabeth Rankine was born in Kingston, Jamaica, on March 9, 1943, and passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026 in Toronto, Canada.
Fiona will be remembered for her quiet strength, gentle nature, and understated humour. Reserved in disposition, she nonetheless had a quick, warm smile and a lively spirit that surfaced among those closest to her. She was patient, steady, and slow to anger, offering a calm presence that anchored her family and friends.
In her youth, Fiona was crowned Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Farm Queen, an honour that reflected her poise, confidence, and connection to her Jamaican roots.
She devoted her entire professional life to the Royal Bank of Canada, where she was respected for her discipline, integrity, and commitment to excellence. She retired after many years of service as a Supervisor.
Fiona held a deep love for poetry and literary tradition, particularly the works of Claude McKay and Louise Bennett-Coverley, and she had a special fondness for Walter de la Mare’s The Listeners. Their voices reflected her appreciation for language, heritage, and the quiet dignity of everyday life.
Following retirement, Fiona was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She faced her illness with courage, grace, and resilience, never losing her dignity or sense of self.
She was predeceased by her brother Peter and her nephew Christopher, and is lovingly remembered by her siblings Carl (Sonia), Easton (Olga), Michael (Jennifer), Pamela (Michael), Walter, Dwight, Janet, and Jean; and by her many nieces and nephews: Colette, David, Jerome, Camille, Michelle, Andrea, Donna, Lisa, Jade, Maureen, Dean, Dahruba, Tafari, Kareem, Akelia, Zekeilia, and Oketo, as well as extended family and friends in Canada, Jamaica, and the United States.
Fiona’s life was defined not by outward display, but by quiet consistency, deep care, and enduring love. Her presence will be deeply missed and long remembered.
