In memory of

Fern Veronica Truman

April 18, 1931 -  May 3, 2022

On May 3, Fern Veronica Truman, at the age of 91, was called home by the Lord.

Losing her beloved husband shortly into their marriage, Fern became self-reliant and independent. She focused her life around raising four children and keeping a good house. Fern was born in Toronto and was very close to her mother. In her teenage years, she sang solos in the choir at her church, and continued to sing hymns throughout her life. She enjoyed reading a good book, going on a picnic, and even taking a ride on the Flyer at the CNE. She made some of the best shortbreads around and passed the secret recipe on to her children.

Beloved mother of Donna (Jim), Nancy (Guy), Doug (Dorothy), and Dave (Anita); grandmother to Sharon, Michael, Jason, Jodi, Ryan, and Jennifer; and great grandmother to Benjamin, Nicholas, Alivia, Maya, Jack and Ella, and most recently Amelia (who never got to meet her great grandmother). Fern is predeceased by her husband Ross and grandchildren Richard and Jo Ann.

The past four years have been particularly difficult for Fern, having lost her independence and mobility to crippling arthritis, all of which was compounded by the isolation brought on by Covid-19 closures and restrictions. The family is appreciative of the care she received at Tall Pines LTC and the dignity many of the staff there gave her. Fern’s children would also like to express sincere thanks to Maricel Lambo at Joyful Homecare for her attentive care to their mother in the final weeks of her life.

In memory of Fern and in lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke foundation would be appreciated by the family. Information can be found by clicking on the donation tab above.

All are welcome to attend the visitation and funeral service on Monday, May 9th. Further information available below or by clicking on the funeral tab above. Thank you!
