In memory of

Evantia Schmid

September 25, 1934 -  April 11, 2021

It is with immense sadness that the family announces the passing of Evantia Schmid on Sunday April 11th, 2021 peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family after courageously battling stroke related illness.

She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, baba, great-baba, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Diana Visconti (Mario Cordoba) and Linda Bulmer, her grand children, Nikki Sharrett (Michael Sharrett), Ariel Visconti (Justin Patriquin) and Connor Bulmer, her great grand children: Owen and Isla Sharrett, and many other family members all around the world whom she cared for deeply. We take comfort knowing she has now joined her husband, Alfred Schmid, parents, Dono and Luba Rizos, and siblings, Kole Rizos, Stella Evanoff and Nick Rizos in eternal paradise.

Evantia was born in Dambeni, Macedonia on September 25, 1934. She was incredibly proud of her Macedonian heritage. She grew up in Romania after civil war in Macedonia separated her from her parents. Evantia proudly studied electrical engineering at the local university in Romania before moving to Canada to be reunited with her family once again. She married the love of her life, Alfred, on October 13, 1957 and together they built a beautiful life and family until his passing in 1996.

Evantia was an incredibly hard working, brilliant and talented woman. She was fluent in 5 languages, and could switch between them with ease, As a skilled self taught seamstress, she designed and produced many of the clothes she and her children wore. She created a business, spending many years doing invisible mending. She lovingly knitted many cozy slippers and blankets that will be forever cherished. She was an avid gardener and always grew the most delicious tomatoes, and had the most beautiful, colourful home gardens. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was known for her wonderful cooking and feeding those she loved until they burst!

Evantia will be most remembered for her loving, warm, nature and her strength and perseverance. She made everyone feel welcome and cared for. She was the best cheerleader and strongest supporter, and she loved with her whole heart.

She will be forever loved, missed and in our hearts.

Glory be to God, may she rest in paradise eternally.

It is so sad to lose a very dear cousin Evantia.
We were close, we even talked and kept writing in Romanian to each other because we both immigrated to Romania in 1948 after the civil war in Greece.
I have many memorable memories about Evantia and her older brother Kole namely in the Village of D'mbeni where we were born, in their house Kole and Evantia very skillful acted behind a white sheet and some lights behind it a PUPPET SHOW that was so real and for us unbelievable amazing and loveable. How can someone forget something like that,
To her family from my family please accept our deepest condolences.
I'll miss you Eva a lot.
Now you are in peace. God bless you in your eternal life.

To dear Diana, Linda and your families, on behalf of Evantia’s Teta Lina and cousins Sofi/Ivica, Phil/Pat and our families, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your loved one. Please know that we share your grief at this most difficult time. We also share many fond memories of Evantia and the extended family times we spent together. Even though our Mom Lina was Evantia’s aunt, they regarded each other more as sisters since they were only 3 years apart. Mom recalls they were constantly together playing during peaceful times in selo D’mbeni and their friendship continued when the Popfilipoff family reunited in Toronto. They shared phone calls and reminiscences right to the end. Phil & I also hold warm recollections of your Mom. During our school years, how we looked forward to every summer, when the 5 ‘cousins’ of Wroxeter Ave (Nick, Liz, Phil, Sofi and Phil) would hop on public transit and have fun adventures visiting our cousin Evantia and getting to know and play with her lovely daughters. Evantia will live on in our hearts as a kind, caring, most talented, proud Macedonian who was never without her big, beautiful, welcoming smile. May she rest in peace.
