In memory of

Evangelia Smardenkas

December 17, 1932 -  September 1, 2025

Our dear Evangelia passed away at Markham Stouffville Hospital on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the age of 92. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Andreas (Andy), her sons James (Janneke) and Thomas (Mary). She was the proud grandmother of Paul (Anna), Rhea, Jennifer (Kevin) and Andrew, as well as a proud great grandmother of Sofia, James, Austin, Addison and Olivia.

Baba Vana was a proud Macedonian, born in the Village of Sfeta Petka, Lerin Region of Macedonia on December 17, 1932. She immigrated to Canada in November 1957 with her family thanks to her parents Pavle and Vasilka.

Baba Vana loved to cook, bake, knit and crochet. Her joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends.

Rest In Peace mom. You are now in the hands of the lord. Until we meet again.

We always enjoyed seeing Baba at Jim and Jannekes fishing derby and were once honored to spend Easter at Babas home I Markham. Her egg bread. Oh my!
Rest in peace, lovely lady.

My sincerest condolences to the whole family. I will always remember Teta by the big spreads she put on at Easter and Christmas. The long tables filled with her delicious cooking, my favourite being the roasted potatoes. You will be missed, rest in peace now Teta xo

We have know Baba ever since Jim & Jannake were married. We have attended a few Easter’s, weddings and birthdays together. Always enjoyed Baba food when we had meals together, especially her roasted potatoes. We called them Baba potatoes, they were the best. She was a very kind woman who loved her family deeply, everything for the children she would say to Egon and I. We will all miss her deeply, it has been a pleasure to have known her and be a part of the family. Our hearts go out to all of you in the family, she lived a good life, loved deeply and worked hard. God Bless and Keep you Baba . We Love You
