It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Eva Wong, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend.
Eva was born on February 9, 1938, in Hong Kong, the only child of Frank Leung and Wai Hing Zhu. She spent her childhood in Hong Kong and attended Maryknoll School, where she developed a lifelong love of learning, culture, and the arts.
As a teenager, Eva moved to Toronto to continue her education, living with relatives while attending high school. She then did her Bachelors of Science at the University of Toronto, where she met the love of her life, Jeffrey Tze Fei Wong. They married and made their home in Toronto, where together they raised their three children: one daughter and two sons.
Eva devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Her home was a place of warmth, and welcome. She often hosted and cooked for family and friends, with hospitality that created lasting memories for all who attended.
Later in life, Eva and Jeffrey returned to Hong Kong when he retired early from being a biochemistry professor at the University of Toronto to become a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
They spent the next several decades in Hong Kong, with a blessed community of fellowship and friendships. Following Jeffrey’s passing, Eva returned to Toronto in the final stage of her life to be closer to family.
Eva had a deep appreciation for beauty and creativity. She was an accomplished artist who especially loved Chinese watercolor painting. Over the years she studied under several art teachers and exhibited her work in numerous art exhibitions. She was also passionate about music and the performing arts, enjoying symphony concerts, opera, and musical theatre throughout her life.
Those who knew Eva will remember her gentle spirit, genuine interest in others, and gift for friendship. She was a wonderful listener and engaging conversationalist who connected easily with people of all ages and backgrounds. Her kindness, warmth, and thoughtful encouragement touched countless lives.
In the middle years of her life, by God’s grace, Eva became a Christian. Her faith became the foundation of her life, guiding her values, relationships, and service to others. She sought faithfully to follow God and to reflect Christ’s love through her compassion, generosity, humility, and care for those around her.
Eva is survived by her three children and their families, including six beloved grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, hospitality, creativity, and devotion to family that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Though deeply missed, she is remembered with gratitude and joy, and entrusted into the loving care of her Lord and Savior.
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning." - Lamentations 3:22-23
