Our hearts are filled with profound sadness as we mourn the death of our beloved Eugenia. Her incredibly strong, beautiful spirit touched the lives of so many and will live on forever.

A sensitive and brave soul is born on September 12, 1958 to Dumitra and Victor Dragomir in Bucharest, Romania.

As an only child, Eugenia is doted on by her parents, especially her mother. At an early age, her mother introduces Eugenia to French through private language tutoring, which eventually sparks her interest in literature, classical music, opera and fashion. This helps develop Eugenia's level of balanced sophistication later in life, attracting and connecting her to so many. Eugenia travels extensively with her parents across Romania, admiring nature and gathering on this journey history, culture, regional traditions and cuisine, first hand.

Throughout her years in school, Eugenia becomes an avid student of world literature and chooses to further her education in humanitarian studies at the National College “Dimitrie Cantemir”, from 1973 to 1977. During the later college years, her parents help steer her interest into the field of science and engineering, and in 1977 she gained admission to the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest. She would go on to graduate from the Faculty of Nuclear Power Engineering in 1982. Her passion for reading, listening to music of all genre, dancing and traveling cross country continues as she begins her engineering career at the National Institute for Nuclear Reactors, in the design department for CANDU reactors.

In 1979, she meets and falls in love with her soon-to-be husband Cristian, and in 1981 gives birth to the couple's first child, Monica. Five years later, Eugenia and Cristian welcome their second child, Lucian.

Having lived through troubling times brought on by international events and national political unrest that caused massive food shortages and limiting opportunities, Eugenia and Cristian make the difficult decision to leave their home and immigrate to Canada with their two young children in November 1990. They would have the financial support of Eugenia's parents to make this life-changing move, and the help of two of Cristian's siblings, who were already established in Canada with their own families.

November 20, 1990 is the start of the new life for Eugenia, Cristian and their two young children. They would soon be introduced to the large group of family and friends of her husband's brother Vasile "Lica" and sister Elena "Nuti". With everyone's kind guidance, Eugenia feels more confident and happy about the move, and sees her children come to enjoy their new schools and make new friends.

In 1993, with Cristian settling into his career as an engineer, having moved into their own home, and the children happily adapting to their new life, Eugenia and her family are able to share their new experiences with mom and grandma, Dumitra who comes to visit them from Romania. For a year, Eugenia shares her joy with her mom, visiting relatives and new friends, and traveling together through Ontario and parts of Quebec. During this time, Eugenia also starts a new career in the insurance industry.

Eugenia proudly watches her children grow through high school, university and trades school, gets to connect more and more with others through regular get-togethers with family and friends, cottaging, and exploring Ontario and parts of the USA. Then in 1997, she and her family are able to share these experiences with parents and grandparents, Victor and Dumitra, who immigrate to Canada.

In the early 2000s, Eugenia begins what would become a long battle with an incurable disease and shows that in spite of this she is tougher than a rock. For years on, she continues to work and to keep entertaining family and friends at regular large gatherings with her culinary talents and zest for good times with good people.

In 2006, Eugenia happily shares with her family and friends the joy of seeing her daughter Monica marry the charismatic Scott, after a long friendship. Both Eugenia and Cristian love Scott as one of their own, and do everything they can to make him feel part of the family. By June 2014, Eugenia is blessed to welcome Jackson, her first grandchild, born to elated parents Monica and Scott.

Life, however, would get tougher on Eugenia in 2017, as she is diagnosed with what would be another incurable disease. She keeps battling the new disease with incredible elegance and composure, and in 2020 is blessed to share in the marriage of her son, Lucian to the wonderful and caring Shivana.

With support from her ever-devoted husband, her children, and many kindhearted family and friends, Eugenia takes on numerous treatments and surgeries, and bravely fights against the health challenges she would face for almost 20 years.

After this long battle, Eugenia's heart stopped beating on May 6, 2021.

Eugenia's tenacity, steadfastness and incredible determination to live life as best she could is a humbling testament to her greatness.

To our dearest mother, grandmother, wife, sister-in-law, godmother, aunt, friend - Eugenia, may you rest in peace, for you remain forever a living inspiration of pure and selfless dedication to your family and loved ones.

I was surprised and deeply saddened to hear about Eugenia’s passing. She left us much too early.. I remember she was such a warm, kind woman, and both Lucian and Monica were such a joy in her life. Chris, I can't imagine how it feels to lose someone who has meant so much to you all your life, and how difficult the last little while has been. Just want you to know I'm thinking of you.

With love at this sad time,
Alex
