Affectionately known as Ernie, he passed away at William Osler Hospital on Saturday Dec 14th, 2024 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Frieda (nee Habicht) pre deceased 1990 and Dorothy (Frizzell) deceased 2022. Loving father, cherished by Rolf (Donna), Robert (Ruth) and Raymond (Sue). Stepfather to Janis (Ross), Lynn (John) and Brad (Bernadette) Loving Opa / grandfather to Shawn, Christopher, Scott, Jonathan, Ryan, Tracy (Ralf), Chris, Melanie (Shane), the late Ian, Colin, Matthew and Courtney. Great grandfather to Carly and Rylie.
Ernie at age 22 emigrated with Frieda to Canada from Germany in 1953. Building a life together and raising a family; with hard work he built his own successful appliance service business. When not active with the boys' sport of go kart racing, he would relax with his passions of playing chess and listening to classical and opera music, sipping fine Cognac and wines. When the boys were older Ernie and Frieda took some time to focus on themselves, traveling through Europe while also returning to their roots in Germany and spending time with family.
Frieda passed away in 1990 and in the following years he found new love with Dorothy.
Ernie and Dorothy moved into their new home where many good times, and pool parties, were had. Soon after Ernie sold his business and retired. With this new-found free time, they started to travel. They travelled across Canada and Europe, as well as enjoying several cruises to various locales. Ernie devoted time to his hobby of woodworking and became very proficient in it; crafting many projects for family members. That didn't keep him too busy to take great pride in having the best lawn in the neighborhood.
Ernie maintained close ties with the original few families and friends who emigrated to Canada. The Oehrlein, Adam and Zimmerman family's support each other through hard times, sad times and great times.
A special thank you to the great folks at Faith Manor for taking amazing care and compassion to Ernie!
In memory of Ernie and in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Thank you.
