Dad life is definitely not the same without you in it. To say you were quite the character, doesn’t do you justice. With all your antics, funnies, advice, support, and love you were one amazing man. Through all the hardships of health you were determined to fight with dignity, strength, and still oh so loving. You were an admiral son, husband, father, and grandfather. With such a strong personality, we all adored you. You helped me so much in life, I will never forget. Your love for your wife Barbara, was such a beautiful thing. So much so that you passed away to the day of her passing seven months later. I hope you are together forever now. You loved your daughters Karen, and me and so much love to your granddaughters Siena, Chiara, and Bianca. You always provided in every way. Your two son-in-laws Sam and Dragan gave you some male companionship as you were always raised, and surrounded by women. Perhaps, that is why you were so exceptional, and caring. I admired you in every way and you will be forever be a hero in my heart. I love you so very much♥️

My father-in-law was a cherished father, whose presence touched our lives in ways words cannot fully capture. He was a pillar of strength to his daughters, a wellspring of wisdom to his granddaughters, and a source of uncompromising love to his family. His laughter, and guidance left indelible mark on anyone who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit endures in the countless memories I hold. His strength for what he’s endured and compassion to those he loved, inspire us each day. As I remember him, I’ll find comfort in knowing his legacy and wisdom continue to inspire those who’s live he touched. I’ll cherish the time’s we shared together.
My heart goes out to the Haunert family at this incredibly difficult time. A big cyber hug to my dear friend, Karen, who has been a loyal friend for more than 40 years--one of the saddest moments of my life was finding out that my best friend and her family were moving away from Halifax to Ottawa (1983). Much of our friendship has been long distance--it is truly amazing! I have always loved Karen's parents. This has been a very sad year for us all, with both of them gone, now. The only comfort is that these wonderful people are together again.
My memories of Mr. Haunert will never fade. I can still hear his voice. I cherish the memories of Karen and I in their family car, chuckling at his questions and quick witted banter, as he chauffeurs us safely to our Saturday night destination in downtown Halifax. I always enjoyed being in his company, and I'm sure others felt the same; you simply felt better after spending time in conversation with him. He was a great father figure to me, and I will always remember him as such. He was a great father to Karen and Christine. And an excellent grandfather, too.
My husband, Luciano, and I send heartfelt condolences to Karen and Dragan, Christine and her family. You are in our prayers and we share in your sorrow.
