In memory of

Ernest H. Pickles

December 14, 1925 -  December 12, 2018

Ernie died on December 12, 2018, at the age of 92. Ernie was born and raised in Toronto. In 1943, at the age of seventeen, he worked at a munitions plant during the summer months on a production line building bombs for the war effort. In August of 1944 he enlisted in the infantry and fought in Germany and Holland during the last several months of the Second World War. Following the war Ernie had a variety of work experiences before starting a 35 year career with Gulf Oil. He met his wife Gwyn square dancing at the Y in 1952 and they were happily married until her passing in 2016. Family was important to Ernie and Gwyn and they maintained a loving connection with their family that was enriched through many celebrations and trips despite the long distance from their children and grandchildren. Ernie had a variety of hobbies and interests over the years including golf, curling, bridge and membership in the Don Mills Kiwanis Club. Ernie also maintained connections with many special friends and work colleagues. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Theriault (James,) and son Calvin Pickles (Deirdre). He was a loving grandparent to Matthew, Blaise, Jennifer (Eric) and Lian. The funeral ceremony will be held at The Simple Alternative Toronto (275 Lesmill Rd, Toronto) on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Society would be welcome.
