In memory of

Ernest (Ernie) William Hultay

December 31, 1935 -  October 10, 2024

Ernest (Ernie) William Hultay, 88, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Ernie was born in Toronto on December 31, 1935, to Maria and William Hultay. He was a beloved husband to Linda, devoted father to Elaine (Jim), stepfather to Lisa (Mike) and Michael (Cindy), and cherished grandfather of Lily, Lucas, Natalia, and Jack.

Ernie was a proud alumnus of St. Michael's College School, earned a degree in engineering from McMaster University, and also studied business at the University of Toronto. He started his career in the Canadian Armed Forces, worked for the Conservation Authority, and held senior positions in banking and business before he found his passion in running his own general contracting business.

A longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Highland Creek, Ernie was deeply committed to his faith and community, serving as an usher for many years. A nautical enthusiast, he also volunteered as an instructor for the Canadian Power Squadron and served as the CPS Commander for Frenchman’s Bay.

Ernie was known for his sharp sense of humour, strong will and determination, and active hobbies such as snowmobiling, bowling, and photography. He approached every task with dedication, whether it was in his career, his community service, or his personal projects. When he wasn’t watching his favourite movies, Ernie could often be found tinkering, fixing, or building something — an engineer at heart. His meticulous nature was always paired with deep love and care for his family and friends, who will remember him with great fondness.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Parish, 200 Morrish Road, Scarborough, followed by interment at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ernie’s memory.
