Erika was born on October 8, 1937, in Germany. In 1957, she immigrated to Canada, and married Geert on March 1, 1958. Together they began a new chapter of life, with courage and hope, in Rexdale where their three children were born.
In 1971, they moved to Mississauga, to a home affectionately known by her children and grandchildren as “the farm,” a place where laughter, stories, and countless memories took root. In 2000, Erika and Geert moved to Holland Christian Homes, a community that soon became an extended family. On February 20, 2014, Geert passed away, leaving an ache in Erika’s heart — a quiet, enduring reminder of a love that had shaped her days.
In October of 2022, Erika moved to Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge, Ontario, where she continued to encourage, uplift, and love others until she was welcomed into her eternal home on September 19, 2026.
Erika had a rare and tender gift: she could sense a need before it was spoken and meet it with grace — a listening ear, a visit, a meal, then another meal, and always prayer. She thrived as a homemaker for the Red Cross, offering care and comfort to families who needed both.
Her life was marked by deep devotion to her Saviour, Jesus — grateful for His sacrifice, anchored in His promises, and leaving her family a remarkable example of faith lived gently and fully.
Her family remains ever so thankful for her amazing, unconditional love and the beautiful example she carried through every season of her life.
Erika was blessed with 3 children, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
