Eric Eiji Sano

June 13, 1941 - August 19, 2022

Passed away suddenly at the age of 81 years on August 19, 2022 at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Cherie (nee Robinson), sisters Sharon Martin and Pat Fenn (Jim). Predeceased by his parents Jim and Sally (nee Matsumoto) and brother Rod. He will be missed by many cherished family members and friends.

Eric worked for over 30 years as a Secondary School teacher with the Etobicoke Board of Education, equally respected and loved by his students. After retirement, Eric loved to walk the dogs, watch all kinds of sports and travel, especially on cruises to Alaska, which he enjoyed four times!

Eric’s life was celebrated at a private family gathering on August 25, 2022.
In honour of Eric, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

I was saddened to hear of Eric’s passing.. Fond memories of our Kipling years, geography field trips, the geography boys (Tom B., Doug H., Ken F., and Eric) and your lovely wedding came flooding back. Eric was a prince among men, a gifted and influential teacher.

I am so saddened to hear of Eric's passing. There were many years of working together in the same school, and I always had great respect for Eric. I enjoyed little chats that we had sometimes. Of course, he and Cherie have been faithful in organizing luncheon get-togethers for retired Kipling teachers in recent years. Everyone enjoyed these times. He will be missed. R.I.P.

Eric was not only an outstanding teacher, but he was a kind and helpful colleague. He always had a smile on his face and saw the positive in all of his students. Eric and Cherie, two of the nicest people I have had the good fortune to know. Going forward Cherie, you will be in my thoughts.

Eric was always at the BDSS Alumni Breakfast held the first Friday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Beacon which he enjoyed, and we enjoyed his company. He will be missed!
