In memory of

Emmanuel Sigalas

January 18, 1930 -  October 28, 2019

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Emmanuel Sigalas on October 28, 2019 at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill.

Beloved husband of Evanthia Sigalas of 64 years, loving father (baba) of son John (Elena), daughter Mary (Mark), and extremely proud grandfather (papou) of Emmanuel, George, Jason, and Alex.
Emmanuel was born in Athens, Greece in 1930. He lived through the Nazi occupation in the early 40s and witnessed oppression and starvation. He often shared stories about this difficult time with his friends and family.

Emmanuel was a proud Greek citizen and served in the Hellenic Armed Forces as a radio man in artillery unit in the early 50s.

He found the love of his life in Athens when a beautiful young woman threw him a red carnation from the balcony , and he married Eva in 1955. They began their journey together leaving Greece for Belgium on his motorcycle.

His first son John was born in Belgium where he worked in the coal mines.
In 1958 he immigrated to Canada where he loved living and where his daughter Mary was born. Emmanuel lived the rest of his life in Toronto working as a photographer, truck driver and eventually retired as a small business owner.

Emmanuel enjoyed spending time outdoors, travelling with his beloved wife, and spending time with his friends and family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed long drives. He loved watching old movies with Casablanca his favourite, and listening to Greek bouzouki music.

Emmanuel was a wonderful proud man that was deeply loved, and will be missed and cherished in our Hearts, forever.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hill House hospice for their exceptional care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Hill House Hospice (36 Wright Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada L4C 4A1)
