In memory of

Emma Clarke

February 3, 1938 -  April 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emma Clarke. Emma was born in the city of Port of Spain, on the beautiful Island of Trinidad & Tobago, to Arthur and Carmen Gumbs (deceased). Emma was the proud mother of two sons, Ronald and Raymond, and a loving grandmother to Sasha, Gerron, Carter, Latifah, Brianna, Juanita, Rahim, and Makai (deceased). She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Adrian, Jasmine, Eeshai and Liam.
Emma was the second of elven siblings – nine girls and two boys! Verna, Elma, Gemma, Wilma, Stanley, Lima, Althea, Anthony, and Susan. She is predeceased by her eldest beloved sister, Phyllis.
As a young girl, Emma attended Intermediate Providence School in Trinidad. After completing her education, she worked alongside her father to learn the craft of jewelry making. Though she eventually pursued other paths, the skills and memories from that time remained close to her heart.
Emma later immigrated to the United States, where she lived briefly before settling permanently in Canada, which she made her home.
From December 2022, to April 2025, Emma was a resident at Shepherd Lodge Nursing Home, where she received compassionate and dedicated care. She lived with dementia, and between 2024 and 2025, her condition progressed, affecting her speech, memory, and ability to manage daily activities.
On April 11, 2025, Emma went to sleep in the Lord awaiting His soon return. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and supported by the devoted staff at Shepherd Lodge. Despite the challenges she faced, Emma never lost her radiant smile or her resilient spirit. Her love, warmth, and presence will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved Emma. I remember her as a gracious, kind, and poised woman — truly beautiful inside and out. During the many times I spent at the Gomes home as a child, she was someone I admired deeply and looked up to. May God continue to hold her in His loving embrace and bring comfort to all who cherish her memory.
