In memory of

Emily Deschlein Berry Ross

December 24, 1926 -  January 29, 2022

Emily Deschlein Berry Ross (1926 – 2022)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Emily Ross on January 29, 2022 at the Hillsdale Estates Long Term Care facility located in Oshawa, Ontario. Emily was born on December 24, 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1967 with her husband Walter and their two children Aileen & Kenneth. In Canada, Emily was reunited with her mother Edith as well as her four sisters; Ida, Mamie, Mina & Margaret who had all emigrated earlier with their respective families.
Emily was happily married to her husband & best friend Walter, for over 62 years, until sadly, he was taken from her in 2013. At that time, Emily had already been suffering for a number of years with Alzheimer’s disease and as such, was incapable of living on her own after Walter’s passing. At this time, Emily began her 8 years stay at Hillsdale Estates where she was very well cared for. Our family would like to express our sincerest appreciation to all of the tremendous staff members who went above & beyond to ensure that mum’s time with them was as comfortable as possible. We know that mum was well liked at Hillsdale and her floor (Golden Pond), will be a little quieter now that she is not there to sing the day away while sitting in her wheelchair.
Emily will be greatly missed by her daughter Aileen & son-in-law Glen along with their son Doug & his wife Colleen and their three children, Brynna, Iain and Adelaide. In addition, she will also be greatly missed by her son Kenneth & his wife Janice and their three children and their families as follows: Lindsay & her husband Justin and their two daughters Addison & Charlotte. Kristen & her husband Mike and their two children Ethan & Evelyn and Andrew & his wife Danielle and their two children Hailey & James. Emily is also survived by her youngest sister Margaret.
For the last several years, mum’s disease had progressed to the point where it had stolen the opportunity for her to fully enjoy the nine great grandchildren she had been blessed with. This was perhaps the hardest part for us, as we know how much she truly loved all of them.
Emily had a great sense of humour, a heart of gold and was truly a kind soul. The world has lost another earth angel. Your family thanks you for being that loving person, who has provided us with so many wonderful memories to remember you by.
She is finally free from this terrible disease and is now reunited with her beloved husband. You will live forever, not only in our hearts, but in the hearts of many who were fortunate enough to know you.

A wonderful human being whose zest for life was contagious and whose heart easily embraced everyone she met. She will be missed here on earth, but we suspect she may be creating some happy commotion along with Walter in the next world. 😁 RIP Emily.

With love and sincerest condolences to the family,
Mary Beth and Don ❤️

I have such wonderful memories of Aunt Emily - her kindness, sense of fun and infectious laugh. Prior to her emigration to Canada, she was a regular visitor to my parents’ home with Uncle Walter, Aileen and Kenneth, and we spent many holidays together. A truly lovely lady.
