GOBIN, Ellen Pujnee

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Ellen Pujnee Gobin, on January 8th. She wore many hats in her 92 years, leaving behind a legacy of 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Ellen was a fiercely independent woman whose strength fueled her family and built a foundation for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to thrive. Ellen was born on October 21st, 1930, in Mahaicony, Guyana. Upon contracting polio as a young child, she was left with a noticeable limp for the remainder of her life. This never softened her determination. She trained as a seamstress in her youth and married John Wesley Gobin in 1946. While raising her young family in Guyana, Ellen used her talents in sewing, crocheting, and knitting to earn supplementary income. In 1974, Ellen immigrated to Toronto where her early training in sewing secured a career at Mister Leonard, remaining there until her retirement in 1993. She had a passion for service and held a soft spot for those less fortunate, likely due to her own humble beginnings. She spent 15 years volunteering at hospitals within the GTA and sponsored two children through World Vision Canada. She was a dedicated member of Senior Social Clubs, attending weekly events with her wide circle of friends, and organizing bus tours to various parts of North America. A passionate traveler, Ellen made numerous trips to Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean with loved ones. Her last trip found her celebrating her 92nd birthday in Guyana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Diabetes Canada.
