In memory of

Elizabeth Wilcox

June 22, 1920 -  January 25, 2025

Elizabeth “Betty” Wilcox

Surrounded by her family, Betty died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital on January 25, 2025 at 104 years of age. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Charles, and will be lovingly remembered by her children Catherine and Bruce (Barb), grandchildren Maggie (Scott), Emily (Trevor), Mark (Bliss), Luke (Janine), and Sarah (Dave), great-grandchildren Ben, Ted, Scotty, Elliot, Sam, Cleo, Annika, Jake, and Wyatt, and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Betty was a force to be reckoned with, as evidenced by her departure at the young age of 104. Born in Berwick-on-Tweed, Scotland, she immigrated to Canada as a young girl and became a nurse in the Air Force (she initially out-ranked Chuck, who couldn’t enter the officer’s “mess” with her!). Betty experienced much of the world before settling in Canada where she continued to work as a psychiatric nurse. Betty was a true matriarch, welcoming to her home a steady stream of friends and family and caring for her beloved sister Kay in her final days. She was a pillar of strength, outspoken, always composed (still in her high heels at 100), a tad feisty, and a social butterfly until the very end. But above all else, she was loving, nurturing, supportive, open-minded, and she cherished her family – her “treasures”. She was a devoted sister, mother, aunt, great aunt, Nan, and G-Nan, and she leaves behind a void that will be impossible to fill. Indeed, it was Betty who was the true treasure in our lives.

A visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on Sunday, February 9 at 1 pm with a service and reception to follow. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Veterans Affairs Canada or Doctors Without Borders.

Betty was a fun loving lady who loved people. When I attended many family gatherings at Barb and Bruce’s
home, she always made me feel welcome. She was
also a nice friend to my mother, Doris Graham.
I will miss her.

Lynn & Edward Davidson (Betty's daughter Cathy's friends)

Entered January 30, 2025 from Victoria, BC

Lynn fondly remembers Cathy's Mum from the mid '60s, when she and Cathy and Bruce were highschool friends.
Then Lynn and Edward were charmed, decades later during their few days's stay from Victoria, by Betty's friendliness, her sense of hospitality, her delicious sense of humour.
And they delighted in being known by Betty from then on as 'The Couple'.
Dearest Cathy and Bruce, may her memory be a blessing, for you and your families.

Our sincere condolences in the passing of a wonderful and grand lady. She was a force of nature totally devoted to her family and bursting with pride for her grandkids. I cannot remember ever seeing her without that enthusiastic smile and a twinkle in her eye….and that is how we will remember her always
