Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Mom came to Canada at 2 years of age with her Mother and Father in 1929 from Belfast Northern Ireland. Her older brother Bill and sister Eileen soon joined them.
From humble beginnings and seeking a better life in the new land the family soon found many new hardships in Toronto as many employment signs read 'Irish Need Not Apply'. They did find a home however in a small apartment above a store on Bloor Street near Christie Pits.
Mom was a good student but left school after grade 9 to work full time during the 2nd World War and to help put food on the table. She did remain a voracious reader of books and the Toronto Star which she read from front to back every day.
Compassion, empathy and love were some of the things my Mother taught my brother and I. She also taught us to never follow the crowd and to always think for ourselves.
Mom was the kindest and gentlest of souls you could meet. She cared deeply for her family and was the anchor for Dad.
From her humble beginnings my Mother always remained humble. She was the most least prejudiced and open person anyone could meet. Always rooted for the underdog and the oppressed.
We all love you Mom.
