In memory of

Elizabeth Matsyue Nishizawa

Nishizawa, Elizabeth Matsuye (nee Kono) passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Lovingly remembered by daughter Arlene (Ralph), grandsons Jeff (Maranda) and Matthew (Pasang) Holek, and sister Fumi Kono.

Betty earned her high school diploma by correspondence in an internment camp and later her university diploma at U of T as a mature student. Her years teaching at TL Kennedy S.S. were her happiest. She spent a year studying flower arranging in Kyoto, Japan and enjoyed performing Japanese dances at the JCCC until she was 90.

Predeceased by sisters Yoshie, Lucy and Molly (Aki) and nephews Larry and Danny, she was a loving aunt to Karen (Ciaran), Garry, Steven (Melissa), Christine, Phillip (Catherine) and great aunt to Kento, Anne, Sean, Robert, Tori, Kai, Kira, Misa, Parker and Katie. Thank you to Idlewyld for caring for her in her final years.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, Saturday November 25 at 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Toronto Buddhist Church.

I was saddened to hear that Elizabeth had passed away. She was a sincere, dedicated member of the Business Education Department and many of her students are better skilled having had Elizabeth as an instructor.

Please accept my deepest condolences on Betty's passing. I am grateful for the time that I was able to spend with her while she resided at Idlewyld Manor. Her smile, love for bingo and chocolate and her strong sense of independence will be missed. Rest comfortably dear Betty.
